The Full Story

2016: Squolf is Born

Do you love squad? Do you tolerate golf? Well then oh boy do I have the club for you. It all began in 2016 when we realized it would be awesome to have our own club at school. Wesley and Jacob pitched the "Squolf Club" to Irvington ASB, and after an hour of deliberation (true story) they decided to approve our club. We began selling stickers, having executive meetings, and going to La Vic's. Little to no golf took place aside from one very awesome range session and a photo shoot at the course.

2023: Squaids League

We took a long break from golf after high school, but shortly after COVID we all began playing once again. As old, washed up former athletes we were searching for a competitive outlet, so we decided to to turn our new golfing hobby into an overly complex competition: The Squaids League. The original format was simple: play one solo round per week and 2 majors (including the now infamous Drunk Scramble). 7 golfers battled throughout the summer, culminating in a legendary finale at the beautiful Tilden Park. To absolutely no surprise to himself, Squolf co-founder Jacob Benjamin Parsons emerged as the champion of the inaugural season. He placed first in the Drunk Scramble and won the Tilden Park Finale with a score of 101. This first attempt at a golf league showed immense promise, but the chaotic schedule and lack of structure left a bit to be desired.

2025: Squolf League Reaches Final Form

The burnout was real from the packed schedule of the 2023 Squaids League, so everyone just wanted to golf for fun in 2024. We all had a good time and got a little bit better (not really), but the washed up athletes inside us were craving that competitive edge. Cut to January 25th, 2025, a day that changed the trajectory of golf as we know it. Like a phoenix from the ashes, the Squolf League was reborn with two key improvements on its predecessor: play a little less golf and have a lot more organization. From the Kickoff BORG Party in February to the 2025 Jorn Cup in Septermber, the 2025 season was a resounding success. Personal best rounds were played, new friends were made, and the promise made to ASB back in 2016 was finally fulfilled: bring people together over bogeys and brews.

2025 Season Highlights

The road to the 2025 Championship was long and winding, and great memories were made along the way. March was dominated by Wesley, who took home the maximum haul of points that month. The Jeong brothers led the charge in April, jumping to the two top spots of the leaderboard. Alonso earned himself the nickname Mr. May by gaining a record 66 points that month. June and July can best be described as the rise of Javier, a stretch in which he transformed his game and won two monthlies and a major. August will be remembered for the Drunk Scramble, where impressive performances included Jacob and Kankshat combining for 31 beers whille still shooting an 84. Despite finishing 16th for the season, Jon Cheng may be the real winner of 2025 having broken 100 for the first time at the Sunnyvale monthly and then making a miraculous hole-in-one on a blind Par 4 at Santa Teresa in June. Other highlights included Nate's personal best 84 at Sunnyvale, Nigel shooting in the 80's in 3 of the 4 monthlies he played, Alonso and Brian shooting a 72 in the Shamble Major, Cal's personal best 79 at Santa Teresa, and the Short Kings emerging victorious from the first ever Squolf Ryder Cup.

2025 Championship

Favorites to win the league came and went throughout the season, with a 3-horse race revealing itself in the late stages as Alonso, Javier, and Cal battled for the coveted #1 seed heading into the championship weekend. The beauty of the Squolf Championship is that you just have to be in it to win it, and nobody embodied that more than our 2025 Champion Kankshat. Coming into the playoffs as the #7 seed in a 8-player field, Kankshat played some of the best golf of his life to make his cinderella story come true. He posted a 97 in the first round at Monarch Dunes and a 94 in the final round at Morro Bay, both of which were good enough to be the lowest net score for the weekend. Ever humble and handsome, Kankshat was a worthy champion of the inaugural 2025 Squolf Leage Season. The Top 3 of 2025 were rounded out by Alonso in 2nd and Cal in 3rd. Now all eyes look to the future as the Squolf League will attmept to build upon its early success.
